Making Housing More Affordable

Matt knows that one key aspect of affordability is being able to afford the home you want. For too many Minnesotans, that home is out of reach. That’s why he has a plan to bring down housing costs.

How Matt Will Make Housing More Affordable

  • Ban corporations from owning homes

People should own homes, not big corporations. As a member of the Housing Committee, Matt has helped lead the charge to ban corporations from buying up large numbers of single-family homes, which crowd out families and drive up prices. Matt will keep working to get this legislation passed once and for all.

  • Pass the Manufactured Home Park Resident Bill of Rights

Out-of-state private equity firms are buying up manufactured home parks, including here in Blaine and Lexington, and jacking up the rents. Matt has authored and is working to pass the Manufactured Home Park Resident Bill of Rights. It will prohibit unreasonable rent increases, make it easier for residents to buy their park, and add new tools to enforce existing resident protections.

  • Streamline the process for building and financing homes

It takes too long to navigate the permit process for building homes in Minnesota. As a result, many builders choose to go to other states. Matt will cut unnecessary red tape so homes get built in Minnesota instead. Matt will also make it easier to complete the process to qualify for assistance to buy your first home.
